Hello
I’m Dr Anna Adima, a German-Ugandan writer, researcher, and cultural consultant with a PhD in East African history and literature. My education and work experience have seen me in seven different countries across Europe and Africa. This international background shapes how I think, work, and connect with people across cultures.
My Story
My work spans academia, journalism, cultural practice, and public speaking. As a historian, I have published in peer-reviewed journals, while as a journalist I have written in both English and German for outlets such as New Lines Magazine, Kulturaustausch, and ArtReview. I also regularly appear as a speaker and moderator, contributing to panel discussions and conferences internationally. Beyond writing and speaking, I collaborate with artists, academics, publishing houses, cultural institutions, and filmmakers to explore different aspects of African history, which I believe are essential to understanding the world and environment we live in today.
At the core of all my projects is a simple goal: to make culture, history, and the arts accessible to wide communities and audiences, moving knowledge beyond the confines of the academic ‘ivory tower.’ Whether through research, media, consultancy, or public engagement, I aim to open up spaces where African histories and perspectives can be heard and valued.
When I’m not researching or working on a project, you’ll usually find me in an independent bookshop, swimming a few laps, or hiking one of East Africa’s mountain trails – I’m happiest when surrounded by books or the great outdoors!
